S Curve
Men and women's figures photograph very differently, as you may imagine. While you might want a more head-on angle to emphasize a man's physique, you want to create an "S Curve" when photographing women. In "a" below, her body is facing the camera more directly, making her appear wider than she actually is. In "b," her hips are facing away from the camera while her torso is turned toward the camera. This pose dramatically emphasizes her slender waist. Another improvement that can be made to this pose is demonstrated in "c." In the last example, I asked her to point the toe and pop the heel of her camera-side foot. This adjustment adds another slimming curve.

Then & Now
In my own family photo album, I like to bring the past and present together by finding or creating pictures that remind me of sweet moments from years earlier. In the photos below, see how I've compared childhood photos of a father and son.

Photo Tip
Next time you're photographing little ones, try placing them next to something over-sized to emphasize just how small and precious they are. This object can be anything from a large structure to a big piece of furniture. Even juxtaposing a parent with a new baby can be a fun way to emphasize how small these children really are.
